I follow ideas until they become something.

Twenty years in creative education taught me that people learn by doing. This is where I make sense of theatre, AI, creativity, education—and the strange work of becoming who you mean to be.

A wandering path towards the sun

What could this become?

Learn by doing.

01 / THE RANDOM WALK

A personal domain, not a polished persona

The wandering is part of the work.

I’m interested in the messy middle: the rehearsal before the performance, the questions before the answer, and the moment a piece of technology becomes useful to a real human.

Read the thinking

The through-line

Four ideas I keep returning to.

The subjects change. The questions underneath them are remarkably stubborn.

  1. 01

    Make the thing

Thinking matters. Rehearsing, testing, publishing and revising are how the thinking becomes real.

  2. 02

    Teach for agency

The best learning gives people enough structure to begin—and enough freedom to surprise themselves.

  3. 03

Use the machine. Keep the human.

AI is most interesting when it extends judgement, imagination and access rather than pretending to replace them.

  4. 04

    Pay attention

Listening, identity, courage and the quiet mechanics of human connection sit underneath almost everything.

Field notes

Writing my way towards the answer.

Dispatches from the random walk—part journal, part working theory, always unfinished.

Watch & listen

Ideas spoken aloud.

Theatre, communication, self-knowledge and the things we discover when we stop rushing to fill the silence.

Nobody else will pave this path for me.

About

A generalist, on purpose.

Jonathon is a creative educator, director and writer with twenty years in education, a BA (Hons) in Performance and an MBA.

His work moves between classroom, rehearsal room and the emerging possibilities of AI. He is most interested in what happens when curiosity is given structure—and when structure leaves enough room for surprise.

If you came here looking for a neat niche, you may be disappointed. The point is the overlap.

Currently

  • Writing and revising original musicals
  • Building reusable tools for drama education
  • Exploring human-centred uses of AI
  • Making videos about communication, courage and the creative life

Continue the conversation

If something here sparks a thought, follow it.

Read the notebook, watch the work, or say hello. The best ideas usually begin as conversations.
